I am Thankful for….

 

I am thankful for my Miss Priss. I remember the day that I received the email from the Adoption Recruiter. It had a small synopsis of Miss Priss and Lil Miss along with their school pictures. My first thought was, she was a funny looking smile.

It took months before we even heard anything from their Family Case Manager. Then we were called to interview with four other families. During this interview, I saw more pictures of her. Most had been taken at Christmas time. What struck me the most was the lack of a smile.

I had never seen a child’s picture showing off their Christmas pictures who wasn’t smiling. It was eye opening and heart breaking experience.

A little over a week later, we learned that we had not been picked for the girls. Then a few months later, I received a call. The other family had dropped out and since we were “second choice” they were asking if we would we still be interested.

Three days later, we met the girls. Miss Priss seemed so young…and I seen a hint of a smile.

We did weekend visits and I seen more smiles.

Then the time came when they were placed with us. So I got to really know Miss Priss. I learned her smile. I learned that she didn’t really smile.

Then one day….I seen the REAL smile. She has a beautiful smile. It lights all the way to her eyes.

I am thankful for Miss Priss’s smile.
