HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - As of July 1, it will be illegal to sell or possess bath salts across Indiana.  The drug is similar to cocaine and meth.  Tobacco stores across the state are selling it legally.
Mephedrone and methylone are substances inside bath salts.  Both were added to the list of drugs state legislators outlawed with the statewide K2 ban.
Huntington County officials said they've seen a drastic increase in people using the substance and are full of stories about bath salt users.
"It was his fourth day with no sleep and he had been constantly using bath salts to stay up," said Huntington County Sheriff Terry Stoffel.  "It's that much of a stimulant."
Huntington County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Jaime Groves said the drug has been causing problems with several Huntington residents.  Wednesday, the wife of a man hooked on bath salts called Groves.  She was concerned for their child because her husband was so unstable.
"I don't think they recognize how badly it's going to affect their lives and how addictive it can become," said Groves.
The substance can cause paranoia, increased heart rate, hallucinations, and has been known to kill.
S.M.OKES is a tobacco store that sells bath salts in Huntington.  The owner said he only sells legal products and is doing nothing wrong.  He has no idea if bath salts are harmful, but will take them off the shelves as soon as they are illegal.
Stoffel said he's disappointed stores continue to sell the dangerous drug.  He's pleased it will be illegal July 1, but hopes stores will take it off the shelves as soon as possible.  Groves feels the same way.
"People who are selling it in their stores are going to have to get rid of it," said Groves.  "It's got to go."

S'srly? This store owner KNOWS that this product is being used as a drug, but he won't take it off the shelves? I bet he is selling it to minors as well. When are people going to get a clue?
When I first heard about "bath salts", I thought that it was the regular pretty perfume type "bath salts". This bath salt even LOOKS like a drug!
Communities need to take a stand and BOYCOTT these places who knowingly sell this stuff!!
