The other day my son, Missionary Boy [who now says I will probably have to change that because he thinks his calling is more Ministry] asked me what I thought I should take credit for for his "upbringing"....now mind you...he didn't live with us until he was 13yrs old....LOL.
But really, the answer hit me fairly easy.
I can't take credit.
I know a lot of people give parents compliments about "how well he turned out".
But let's be realistic. All I can or did was give him tools and point him in the direction that I wanted him to go...good or bad.
It was his decision on the choices that he has made. Not mine.
S'rsly...what parent can MAKE their child do what they want? NONE!
There are good parents and bad parents...but the ultimate choice of what that child does is up to that child...no one else.
God tells us: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6 (KJ)
I understand that to mean, even if they make mistakes as kids, they will have a foundation to make good choices. I don't have any fear of that.
Look at Franklin Graham...he had BILLY GRAHAM as a father...he strayed...but he came back. By His CHOICE!!!
I am a big believer in personal responsibility. Your choice is on you! So I won't take credit for the good. That is yours.
